The water has a deep rusty color and thousands of dead fish line the shore. At some places, sea birds are picking away at what’s left behind.According to Officials working at Florida Fish and Wildlife, North Longboat Key and Siesta Beach show the highest levels of red tide – an algae bloom producing toxic chemicals.
For humans, these chemicals cause respiratory irritation, but for marine organisms and some birds, it’s often deadly.Officials qualify this red tide as one of the worst ever seen in Florida. Birds are starting to collapse as they get incredibly sick after eating the dead fish. The red tide comes in and it’s gone, but then a few weeks later you start getting all of these sick birds in, so it can take awhile for it to develop. The bird apocalypse is only a month away!
